Oral Conscious Sedation
Patients who experience mild to severe dental phobia can often benefit from oral conscious sedation, in which they’re prescribed a pill to take at home on the day of their appointment. The goal is for someone to be completely mentally and physically relaxed by the time they sit in the treatment chair. While under, most patients are able to stay awake and respond to basic commands, but many end up catching a few Z’s during their visit!
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide is so safe and gentle that it can even be used with young children, and it’s perfect for patients who just need to “take the edge off” of their dental nerves. Once the gas has been inhaled via a small mask placed over the nose, a patient should begin to feel warm, calm, and slightly numb all over. We leave the mask on for the entire appointment, and when it’s removed, the patient should feel normal within a few minutes, meaning they can resume their regular routine.
